In 1890, Shozo Kawasaki, the founder of Kawasaki Shipyard (now Kawasaki Heavy Industries) and the Kobe Shimbun newspaper, opened the first private museum in Japan, the "Kawasaki Museum," in Kobe. The Kawasaki Museum, which collected excellent works of Japanese and Oriental art to protect them from the Haibutsu Kishaku (abolition of Buddhism) and outflow overseas, will gather in Kobe for a limited time after 100 years.
